Recap: The CarryOut x Jamla Records, HipHop in the DMV | Events

DC got to vibe with real, live, raw HipHop Saturday night at the Everlasting Life Cafe on Georgia Ave.

The CarryOut, an indie HipHop label and event coordinating group in DC owned by Jamal Gray, and Jamla Records a label owned by DJ, Rapper, Professor, Super-PRO-ducer 9th Wonder came together to deliver a dope clash of NC and DC HipHop.

9th and the Jamla fam definitely brought that southern heat, no metaphor, it was about 110 degrees in Everlasting Life Cafe. Definitely not the spot for

the pretty girls with the hair they can’t get wet. It was hella raw in there, like an underground HipHop dungeon. The sweat was pouring off Host and HipHop emcee Stef is Dope as he hyped the soaked, dehydrated, yet anticipating crowd.

A lot of familiar faces, DMV rappers, producers and singers came through to show love.

9th Wonder stayed on the tables while Rapsody, Tom Hardy, Big Remo, Actual Proof and HaLo killed their sets. The energy levels were as high as the temperature and good ole call and response game had the crowd 100% tuned in and ready to rock out with the Jamla crew. “Swag”, apparently the local word of approval has probably never been shouted so much in one night.

After 9th and the Jamla crew rocked the stage everyone headed outside for some fresh, cool air… The hommie 9th Wonder went outside and told everyone to stay for Kool Klux Klan, JF Coop and M1 Platoon’s performances. Much respect to 9th for that, most artists perform and roll out after their set.

Shoutout to DMVFollowers GM Lizee and the hommie DJ Teck for the video footage and interviews with the Jamla fam. Shoutout to The Carry Out and Jamal for keeping real HipHop buzzin in the DMV.
